Critical thinking
a. What changes have started to occur in Nepali families in recent days? What impacts will they bring on the society? Discuss.
Nepali families are modeled mostly in the patriarchal model. Family is structured in both joint and single. However, in modern places like Kathmandu has single-family and a very negligible number of families might not have a patriarchal family but in most of the places, the family is framed in a patriarchal structure.
Women are often perceived as the caregiver and commonly dependent on their husbands. However, in recent days, some remarkable changes have started to occur in Nepali families. The family role once considered patriarchal has broken down. The patriarchal rule has begun to give way to greater equality between the sexes. Caring for the home and children once expected to be the duty of the female is now a shared activity.
As the family role is shared, women are not only limited to the family affair. They hold a vital position in the government and non-government offices. Their economic contribution to the family is really admired. They are also a significant part of the development activities of a country.
b. We see many elderly people in elderly homes these days in Nepal. Some of them are abandoned while others live there willingly. Do you think Nepali people are deviating from their traditional culture? Give reasons.
Nepal is a developing country. In course of time, Nepali has seen many changes in their life. They are traveling in various places and get influenced by other's ways of living. Hence that results in infraction on the belief even within the family. These days many people are sent to elderly people because they are considered to be adjusted or lived with. Their way of leading life is different from the younger generation.
In addition to that, there are few people who want to lead an isolated life also take refuge in the elderly homes when they can't look after themselves. Likewise, due to foreign employment, people have to travel from one place to the other and they can't look after their elders. That's why Nepali people are forced to deviate from their traditional culture.
