Michael Ventura Speaks of an illusion of freedom that U. S workers have in their jobs. Ventura mentions it is due to work people have no authority over themselves. They have regular jobs and they really have time for themselves. He shows relationships between employer and employee. He shares his own experience of having 2 weeks' holiday in 52 weeks i.e in a year. The employee gets so less than what he contributes to the work. Its the responsibility of the employee to work 50 weeks per year. Despite working and giving his life's valuable part, its difficult for them to receive rewards from employees.
The writer advocates for the value of the workers and they should be heard and included in the process of decision making. That's why workers in the US are unable to live up to the natural rights guaranteed in the U.S. Declaration of Independence (1776). Most of the people have little or no authority over what they do five days a week for 45 years. So they are deprived of life liberty and pursuit of happiness.
Those who work for 45 years won't be able to live a good life in a good house and their kids' prospects are worse. There is another option to pursue happiness by starting a business on their own, by becoming an independent entrepreneur. But in the US becoming an independent entrepreneur is to find slave-like employees.
The employer comes up with the money to start the enterprise in the first place and he decides everything and gets all the benefits. This is how an employee made a puppet.
