Pokhara Metropolitan City started an e-governance project in 2023 to digitalize important public services like tax payments, birth registration, property records, and business licenses. Earlier, the system depended on paperwork, which made procedures slow, inaccurate, and open to corruption. People often had to visit government offices many times for one service.
The new online platform enabled citizens to apply digitally, monitor their application status instantly, and make online payments. An IT company worked with the city to create the system with data protection features and support for multiple languages. Municipal staff were also trained to use the new system effectively.
After the project was introduced, services became faster and public satisfaction increased. However, some problems remained, such as high maintenance costs, difficulty for elderly people in using technology, and cybersecurity risks to private data. Therefore, the city started awareness programs and user-support services to make the system more accessible.
