When it comes to acting and movie industries in and abroad, Manisha Koirala needs no introduction. 90's big-name Manisha hasn't been seen in the films as frequently as she used to be in the '90s. Despite having health issues, she hasn't given up enthusiasm for acting. Which is why we get to watch her in some movies and series as well these days. One of her upcoming films is India Sweets and Spices.
The film is directed by Geeta Malik (“Troublemaker”) and is based on her own script “Dinner With Friends” that won the 2016 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in screenwriting. The film follows a young woman who, after her first year at college, returns to her affluent suburban New Jersey home for the summer and discovers distressing secrets about her seemingly picture-perfect Indian American family.
This is going to be Manisha's first-ever experience in American film so she has asserted in the media that India Sweets and Spices, makes her feel like a debutant. She has spent a good deal of time in America yet she hasn't done American films so far. She was concerned about her accent and also anxious about the people who might be unable to understand her. But she could continue with the encouragement of the director
Her presence in the film was an incentive for other artists in the film. The film also features Adil Hussain (Life of Pi, Delhi Crime) who praises her for showing respect towards everyone in the set. Talking about the character he adds that Manisha's role is dynamic who lives for a happy family. Working with a highly respected actress is wonderful to experience for him.
The film is a woman-centric film where Manisha will be seen doing a pivotal role that's what Ali Hussain likes about the film. The film talks about a rare topic of the duality of identity strongly both Indian and American traditions and not having to choose between them according to the maker. The film is more about embracing history, not about any sort of culture clash. It is produced by the SK Global whose last successful film is Crazy Rich Asians.
